Gyroboard, the Ultimate Sports Board.
This genuine New Zealand invention is an all-in-one sports board trainer that combines the best features of balance, wobble and rocker boards. The Gyroboard is suitable for all levels of ability, from the beginner to the expert. The user can improve their balance, co-ordination and agility skills and train for their chosen sport in a fun and challenging way
What makes the Gyroboard different to all other balance boards on the market is the unique braking mechanism mounted on top of a purpose designed steel spring. The Gyroboard mechanism is fully adjustable, allowing the maple deck to spin 360°, rock or tilt at varying degrees. The board can spin either slowly or freely, depending of the degree of difficulty the user desires. The mechanism also has a secure lock function, allowing for safe exercise training or rehabilitation after injury.
With four detachable stabilising legs, the Gyroboard weighs only 8.3 kg, is easy to assemble and is fully portable. It also comes with its own sports carry bag and there is a choice of two colour designs; yellow or red.
Invented by Cantabrian Graeme Dubar, the Gyroboard has been trialled by snowboarders, skateboarders, surfers, fitness trainers, physiotherapists, rugby players and other sports participants. It has been extensively tested and proven to be effective in increasing proprioception (balance), and decreasing the risk of injury.
The Gyroboard has been used in the PhysioSouth physiotherapy clinic for two and a half years. Patients range in age from pre-schoolers to 80+ year olds, with a variety of injuries, including ankle, knee, shoulder and back injuries. Exercises are adapted according to the injury; with results being an increase of strength in the targeted area, as well as improvement in the user’s balance and co-ordination. Feedback from the patients is that they find Gyroboard a fun and challenging way to rehabilitate after injury.
Colin Hancock, PhysioSouth Kaiapoi’s Head Clinician Physiotherapist, adds ‘We have found the Gyroboard to be a great tool for rehabilitation as it allows more freedom and range of movement than any other similar product’.
The New Zealand Academy of Sport is using the Gyroboard in the New Zealand Snowboarding team training camp and they have found it to be an effective off-slope training tool which enhances the board rider’s skills and abilities on the slopes.
The Canterbury Rugby Football Union/The Crusaders are using the Gyroboard in their training facilities, as well as for rehabilitating injuries. The Medical Director, Steve Muir, says ‘Balance and proprioception are essential elements of elite rugby performance. The Gyroboard offers us a fun way to challenge these elements as part of our regular training.’
The Gyroboard will be released on to the New Zealand market in late August 2008.
